ALEXIS SMART, FOUNDER OF ALEXIS SMART FLOWER REMEDIES
This week's Flower Person embodies everything about what makes a flower person...well, a flower person! She is Alexis Smart, founder of Alexis Smart Flower Remedies. Alexis has found her calling in treating common ailments through developing natural floral based tinctures, given her love and admiration for flowers her entire life. She believes in the power of flowers to enhance the human experience physically, mentally, and spiritually. The thought, love, and care Alexis puts into her work are inspired by her fond childhood memories of interacting and adoring flowers. In this interview, we chat about the benevolent beauty and innocence of flowers, the growing attraction towards botanically-based scents, and embracing our emotions.
Hi Alexis! Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do.
Hi, I’m Alexis Smart, flower remedy practitioner and classical homeopath.
I am the founder and maker of Alexis Smart Flower Remedies. Flower remedies are high vibrational natural tinctures made from the blossoms of wildflowers. The ones I use are from the English countryside. They uplift the mood and help us to be our true selves, connecting us to our highest purpose.
I have been doing this for about 17 years. I started out treating people one on one with custom flower remedies. After many years of observing the amazing results I was getting with my clients and seeing which flowers worked well together, I knew I was ready to share my flower remedies with the world. I created a line of universal formulas that treat many of the common issues we face, like low self-esteem, anxiety, grief, focus, and anti-aging.
Wow! You've been a flower person your entire life! Where did your love of flowers come from and what drew you to flowers?
I have always been in love with flowers. Looking back, I see that it was my fate to be working with them the way I do. When I was little, the other kids wanted to go to the parks with slides and swings and I always begged to go to the botanical gardens. Flowers made me happy and I felt at home amongst them, in my element. I found them to be totally magical. I became obsessed with a small old book of my mom’s about flower fairies. I loved that each flower had a personality (which is the principle of the work I do now). I even made and drank my own “magic flower water” by floating blossoms in a bowl of water. Little did I know at the time that flower remedies are made in exactly the same way!
Your creative floral childhood sounds so wonderful and magical. What do flowers mean to you?
Flowers are my life and I believe they hold the key to healing humanity. This may sound like a lofty idea, but I believe it. I have seen so many people overcome a lifetime of difficulty when they are taking the correct flower remedies. Flowers are purely benevolent, with the only purpose to uplift the spirit, whether in their most natural form, growing wild in majestic beauty, in flower remedies or in botanical perfumes.
Your admiration for flowers is truly astonishing! I'd love to know more about how do flowers play a role in your life today.
All-day, every day, I am thinking about flowers... which ones will heal my clients and which flowers to put in new formulations I am working on. They support me in my work and I do consider them my plant allies.
Flowers are a without a doubt a HUGE part of your life, but I'm wondering how do you incorporate flowers into your daily ritual?
Every day I am dosing myself with my own flower remedies. I usually pick a new formula a month, depending on what issues I want to work on. I put the drops under my tongue four times a day. I take a moment and connect with the healing energy of the flowers. Not only does it make me feel good, but it's part of my ongoing work, as I study the effects of flowers on the mood.
Is there anything special you’re working on right now you’d like to share?
Yes! I am working on a flower remedy for rosacea. We are in the trial stage. I am very excited about my line of Beauty Formulas. I knew when I started the Beauty Line, about 14 years ago, that I was doing something revolutionary. Until then, flower remedies had only ever been used for emotional conditions, but exploring their use for cosmetic and beauty purposes was a challenging and exhilarating project. The first two remedies in my Beauty Formula line (an anti-aging and an acne formula) far exceeded my expectations in results and feedback, so I have faith that I can give rosacea sufferers something to look forward to.
You're always surrounded by flowers in your work, life, and every moment in-between. Do you have a favorite flower or floral scent that inspires your work?
I love the Wild Rose. It conjures a walk in the English countryside, narrow roads, stone walls, and hedgerows. I wear scent every day. My favorites are Sigil Prima Materia and Bodha Air. (I am so happy the word has gotten out about the hormone disruptors in synthetic perfumes and that people are seeking out botanically-based scents).
Roses are such classical floral beauties and so romantic in their essence! I love everything about them--their look, smell, and taste! Where do you find flowers inspiring you in the future of your career?
I have so many projects in the works! Other than new products, I am going to start offering courses in flower remedies. I want to help others be practitioners, honoring the work with a spirit of integrity and honesty. I feel that those of us in alternative healing must be held to an even higher standard, to avoid the stigma of charlatanism so often ascribed to my kind of work. I want to make sure my practitioners are skilled before others entrust their healing to them.
Finally, what’s a wellness tip you’d like to share with our community?
Don’t suppress your feelings. It’s not good for you. Honor them, invite them, and then figure out a safe and gentle way to let them out.
