Q. What is an adaptogen or adaptogenic tea?

Adaptogens or adaptogenic ingredients are used in herbal medicine for holistic wellness and help the body protect from stress.

The concept of adaptogens was originally created in 1947 to describe an ingredient that may increase resistance to stress. Adaptogenesis was later applied in the former Soviet Union to describe remedies thought to increase the resistance of organisms to biological stress.

Prior to that these very same ingredients were generally categorized as herbs, herbal remedies, herbal medicine and have been used for thousands of years in many Eastern countries such as China in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and India in Ayurveda to promote holistic well-being and prevent illnesses.

Q. What is a tisane?

"Tisane" is a French word for "herbal tea" or "herbal infusion". Tisanes are usually made from ingestible dried flowers, fruits, spices or herbs steeped in boiling water. Unlike tea, tisanes are caffeine-free and no tea leaves are used in its preparation.

Q. Are your flower certified organic?

Our flowers are grown to organic standards. However, as the farms that we partner with are small, family-owned outfits, they currently do not all have the resources to immediately obtain organic certification. At present, only the chrysanthemums are certified organic and this is shown on the Chrysanthemum Tisane box packaging.

We are working with the farms that provide us the roses and lotuses on obtaining organic certification.

Q. Do you do any testing on your flowers?

Yes. We carry out 3rd party independent testing on all of our flowers in the USA in accordance with the USDA National Organic Program (NOP) to ensure that our flowers are of the highest quality and adhere to USDA NOP standards.

Q. How should I store the tisanes?

Keep the flowers at their best by storing them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. They stay even fresher/last longer when stored in the refrigerator.

Q. How do I store the flower after only steeping it one time in the mug?

Keep the flower in a container with a top that can be closed so it stays airtight. Store it in the fridge over night and enjoy additional steeping the next day. The sooner you can enjoy the flowers the better.

Q. What is the shelf life of the flowers?

While the flowers do not expire as they are dried herbs (they do not go bad like milk). We'd like to reconmand enjoying them within 18 months from harvest date so you get the most aroma, flavor, and nutrients.

Using the Flowers

Q. How do I enjoy The Qì flowers?

Pour hot water (185/190 degrees) over 1 flower in a small pot (or a large mug, in which case feel free to add as much water as you need), and let it steep for 3 minutes before enjoying. The tisanes are equally delicious warm or chilled. To make a chilled tisane, brew it as you would a warm tisane and let it chill in the fridge for at least 4 hours before consuming. For the most visual splendor, we recommend using glassware to prepare your tisanes.

Q. How and when will I feel the health benefits?

Our bodies are unique and the results will vary person to person. In some instances, physical results can be seen and felt almost immediately. For others, it might be a slower process over days or weeks. The mental and emotional effects of taking a moment to pause and rebalance with a cup of our tisane, however, are certainly felt right away.

Q. Can I take too much?

There can be too much of a good thing. We recommend enjoying no more than one of each type of flower a day, whether as a tisane or otherwise.

Q. Can I take the flower tisanes if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

All our products are 100% organically grown, natural and nutritious. However, we are unable to advise if these are suitable for our pregnant or breastfeeding customers and would recommend that you consult your physician before consumption.

Q. Can my child take the flower tisanes?

While the tisanes are caffeine-free, we would advise that you consult with your child’s pediatrician before having them enjoy the tisanes with you.

Q. Will the flower tisanes interfere with my existing medications?

Please consult with your physician if you are currently taking any medications before enjoying our tisanes.

Q. How do I get the most out of The Qi flowers?

We recommend that you enjoy our flowers as a flower tea once daily. Each flower can be steeped up to 3 times. Pay attention to the ritual of brewing the tisane itself, taking in the burst of color and aroma from the flower. The ritual is often the most therapeutic part. Be present and mindful during the process, as that is an incredibly healthful and powerful way to mark your day.

Q. When is the best time to have a flower tisane, if there is one?

Our tisanes are all caffeine-free, so it’s really up to you! Over at The Qì, we like to enjoy the tisanes during a mid-afternoon break or at night while winding down from a busy day. The Rose and Lotus tisanes have some sedative properties, and are especially soothing as a bedtime beverage.

Q. Is it possible to enjoy all three flowers together?

Yes! We encourage you to be creative and inventive with the flowers, and discover your favorite ways to consume them whether alone or together.

Q. What else can I use The Qi flowers for?

The Qi flowers are actually edible flowering herbs that can also be used in facial steams, in your ritual bath, take the petals off the flowers to use in your baking and cooking recipes, mixed them in your fav DIY facial masks and so much more. Check our
