Butterfly pea flower matcha

Butterfly Pea Matcha (Layered Blue–Green Latte)

Flavor profile

Earthy umami matcha + soft floral notes, lightly creamy, visually vibrant.

Serves

1 drink

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp The Qi ceremonial-grade matcha

  • 1 tsp dried butterfly pea flowers (6-8 flowers)

  • 2 oz hot water (160–175°F / 70–80°C) — for matcha

  • 4 oz hot water (just off boil 210°F) — for butterfly pea

  • 4–6 oz milk of your choice (oat, almond, or dairy)

  • Optional sweetener: honey or maple syrup (1 tsp)

Instructions

1. Brew the butterfly pea tea

  • Steep butterfly pea flowers in 4 oz hot water for 5 minutes

  • Strain; liquid should be a deep sapphire blue

  • Optional: stir in sweetener while warm

  • Set aside

2. Whisk the matcha

  • Sift matcha into a bowl

  • Add 2 oz warm water (160–175°F)

  • Whisk until smooth and frothy

3. Assemble (for the layered look)

  • Pour the butterfly pea tea first into a clear glass

  • Add in the warm or lightly frothed milk

  • Slowly add the matcha to create the layer

✨ Blue + green layers will naturally soften over time — that’s part of the magic. Mix, sip and enjoy!
