Rose Water Hair Benefits

Tender on the hair, rose water is widely renowned for its gentle, nourishing properties. Did you know it's been a treasured elixir for centuries? Favored in Middle Eastern cultures, namely ancient Persia for its various beauty and health benefits, rose water has been used to promote smooth skin and strong hair.

  • A mild astringent, rose water may help to reduce oiliness and dandruff buildup on your scalp.
  • Rose water is a light, non-greasy hydrator, which can be helpful for low porosity hair that often struggles to absorb heavier products. Low porosity hair has tightly bound cuticles, making it difficult for moisture and products to penetrate. We recommend learning more about your hair type before using a rose rinse, though it's safe for all hair types!

  • Because rose water is beneficial for overall scalp health, it also provides a good foundation for promoting hair growth and preventing hair loss that comes with stress and aging.

  • Massaging rose water into the scalp can also help improve blood circulation, which is important for delivering nutrients to hair follicles. Better circulation = better hair growth!
  • Rose water is also ultra-hydrating and particularly beneficial for those with dry or damaged hair, as it can restore moisture balance and improve overall hair texture.
  • Rosewater has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, helping to soothe an irritated or sensitive scalp. It can also help to reduce itching, redness, and inflammation, providing relief for conditions like eczema or psoriasis.
  • Rich in vitamins A, C, and E, rosewater nourishes the hair follicles, strengthening the roots and preventing hair loss. These vitamins also promote healthy hair growth and add natural shine to the hair.
  • Rose water emits a calming and soothing aroma that’s been known to boost mood, relieve headaches, and reduce irritability.
  • Regular use of rosewater can add a natural, healthy shine to the hair, making it look more vibrant and lively. The nutrients in rose water help to smooth the hair shaft, reflecting light more effectively.
  • Rose water also helps to tame frizz and maintain curls. Many women with thicker hair textures swear by rinsing their hair with rose water as it provides a natural detangling effect, especially on long locks.

DIY Rose Tea Hair Rinse

You will need:

Using herbal tea as an introduction to the wonderful world of DIY beauty is perfect for beginners. To make rose rinse at home, start with three whole flower Shangri-La roses and a handful of Rosebuds for a beautiful and aromatic elixir.

Pro Tip: Use distilled water instead of tap water. Free of impurities, toxins, chemicals, and minerals, distilled water works to remove residues from your hair and scalp while leaving the natural oils unharmed. Plus, it'll help preserve your hair color and style.

  1. To start, take 3 Shangri-La Roses and 6-7 Rosebuds out of their packaging.
  2. Place the roses in a large pot and cover with the 1/2 gallon of distilled water.
  3. Cover the pot with a lid.
  4. Simmer the rose petals on medium heat for around 20 minutes or until the petals lose their color.
  5. Strain the rose petals out of the rose water, store in the fridge and save for a calming, post-hair care cup of tea.

Pro Tip: 1 Shangri-La Rose flower can be used for 3 cups of tea (After the 1st steep, refill hot water 2 more times and store in the refrigerator between uses to maintain the ultimate freshness!

   6. Store the rose water in one large or several small glass jars in a cool dry place.

How to Use Your Rose Rinse

We recommend using your rose rinse two to three times weekly to maintain a healthy scalp and pH. Apply the rinse directly to the hair or scalp as shampoo, conditioner, an after-shampoo rinse, or as a mist.

  • For a thorough rinse, wash and saturate your hair with rose water. Then lightly ring it out, wrap it in a soft towel, letting it soak into your scalp for hours, or even overnight. Rinse it out after several hours.
  • Use a spray bottle to spray rose rinse onto your hair anytime you want to decrease frizz or add a spritz of scent.
  • For an even more enhanced spa experience, place your face over the steaming hot bowl of rose water with a towel over your head before rinsing your hair. A two-in-one facial awaits you!

If you're satisfied with the benefits you're seeing on your scalp, consider the many possibilities of using rose — topically for skincare like in facial toners and moisturizers, in cooking, baking and decorating.
