Sakura tea (桜茶) is a very special, traditional Japanese infusion that is unlike any other. Sakura is the name for the famous pink cherry blossoms that bloom all over Japan in the spring. The flowers are mixed with ume plum vinegar and salt and remain in this mixture for a month. Then they go through thorough washing to rid of the salt and vinegar. After that, they are preserved in Sugar to create Sweet Sakura. Cherry blossom tea is considered very special in Japan and is mostly served at weddings, as it is believed to represent new beginnings.

Sugar-flower tea

I was expecting this tea to be flowers, sans sugar, but oh well. I don’t have that much sugar anyway and a little in my tea is enough to brighten my day.

A Pleasant Cup

I wasn’t sure what to expect with the Sweet Sakura tea but it makes an absolutely LOVELY cup of tea! It has a nice sweet flavor but isn't overly sugary. I added a dash of milk and it was a very enjoyable and pleasant experience.

All I could taste is sugar

Unfortunately, I’m not able to write a positive review for this tea. I have tasted cherry blossom tea before and loved it, but in this case all I tasted was the sugar. I would prefer just to steep the straight cherry blossoms. The sugar really overpowered it and I felt like I was just sipping sugar water which I would never do. I try to avoid sugar as much as possible. This was an expensive tea and I regret my purchase.
