#Flower4Change: Girls Inc. of NYC

Hi there! My name is Carol Nguyen and I’m one of the interns for The Qi. We’re running the #Flower4Change campaign as a way to give back to our community and to spotlight three deserving non-profits for all their amazing work in supporting the future generation of changemakers with the skills they need to thrive. Our fundraiser will be running on GoFundMe from July 21 - August 9th. For our fundraising raffle, we’ve partnered with some fantastic mission-driven brands including The Sill, Palermo Body, Linné Botanicals, Raaka Chocolate, and Lauren’s All Purpose to create a grand prize worth over $500! Every $5 donation is a raffle ticket to win our grand prize. AND with every $20 donated, a special gift package will be mailed to you! More details will be on our GoFundMe page. :) All proceeds will be evenly distributed amongst our three non-profits, Girls Who Code, Bronx Loaf, and my chosen non-profit, Girls Inc. of New York City

Girls Inc. of New York City is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the development of girls 6-18 from diverse ethnic, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds throughout New York City. I’m particularly moved by their mission to promote gender equity and systemic change through multiple modalities including mentoring relationships, research-backed programming, and partnerships with schools and community organizations.

Every dollar donated helps to change a young girl’s life and to better her future. $25 supports high-impact in-school programs, $250 funds two months of nutritious snacks for five girls, and $500 funds school supplies for a first-generation college freshman. The life-changing programs and experiences Girls Inc. of NYC offers include economic literacy, leadership development, STEM education, health and wellness, and more. I strongly believe they contribute to the necessary holistic well-being of a young girl growing up in today’s dynamic climate.

Reflecting on my own background, education has always been a value of mine I hold near and dear to my heart and am incredibly passionate about. I am immensely grateful for all the educational privileges I have been afforded, as well as the mentors in my life who’ve helped support me into being the woman I am today. Particularly, as a woman of color, first-generation American, and first-generation college student, I have experienced first-hand the transformative power of education and inclusion.

I firmly believe that inclusion allows people a seat at the table and education liberates them to think critically and achieve greatness. Malala Yousafzai once said, “One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world.” These values are intrinsic and evident in the mission and work of Girls Inc. of NYC. Young girls blossom and rise up through the guidance and encouragement of positive female role models. Investing in even just one girl can transform generations to come. Girls Inc. of New York City works to equip the skills and confidence necessary for young girls to be empowered to paving their own path to success, which is why I am elated and honored to support their organization through #Flower4Change. I’m beyond grateful for your support in helping these young girls have the resources, guidance, and ability to tap into their potential. Thank you for sharing our GoFundMe page to help spread the word about this wonderful cause!
